sooo pitiful |
So we made it back from Alaska and Vancouver with just enough time to dump clothes and pick up the dogs and then Duke had his ear surgery. My fantastic parents drove down and watched the kids and I sat with Duke at the surgery center. After waiting 3 hours and additional blood work and 4 hours of surgery he came out. The doctor came to speak with me and revealed that she was unsuccessful in getting the tumor out. She had thought that she could fold the ear drum and take it out but the tumor has attached itself to to the ear drum now and is allready attached to the middle inner ear canal and they need more specific machines to monitor facial nerves, and the inner ear needs to have some temporal bone removed, apparently to get it out, there was talk of lasers ... needless to say she has refered him on to a specialist in San Antonio. So I packed up Duke in his half co-hearent state with head wrapped up like a boxer after a bad fight and took him home and broke the bad news. So we called and actually got an appointment that next week in San Antonio on Saturday, which worked great since we moved in Wed, Duke drove up Friday night and saw doc Saturday. He doctor has not ever see this before, and ordered more specialized scans and xrays....medically you never want to be unique is my opinion. We return again Monday to do the scans and films and then go to see the doctor that same day. Hopefully this will give us a better idea of what we are dealing with, and I hope and pray it is all for not and a simple solution is found. However I am trying hard not to awfulize all the sceranios running in my mind my only solice is that the doctor said he has never had a paitent with temporal bone cancer that was not in extreeme pain which Duke is not so I pray we dodged that bullet... more when I know more. This whole ordeal has made me realize just how important he is to me and how lost I would be without him.
