Sunday the 25 of March we had our first concussion... well Reid did to be specific. We had a bball tourney that weekend... and his team played and the n had an hour off and an open gym so they were playing. Reid was playing an elimination game got eliminated and was sulking... another game began ...a chase/ running game. Since Reid is fast several of us encouraged him to play ... he was hesitant but did play and had fun on the first run and saw how the game was played and was not caught so on the second run he was ready. he took off running and soon chase ensued he ran faster to avoid the tag... and then looked back to see how close the chase was and WHAM... cinderblock wall to left side of the head. He crumpled but did not loose consciousness...cried immediately...and I saw blood not sure where it was from called duke to come back since he and macy left... and then saw blood was from nose... and had big bump on forehead. So we treated the nose bleed, iced the head and then decided to take him in since he began to feel nauseous and tired. we had to stop on the drive to try to vomit... no success, prodded to keep him awake and success would come at the med clinic. Poor kid tossed all over the lobby and we made it outside to the flower bed... then all he wanted was to sleep... which is way out of character. So dr confirmed he had a concussion...did xrays on head to rule out fracture which he did not have just a slow nose bleed. He came home and was cleared to sleep for short time spurts... and he did then threw up again and nose bleeding began again but stopped. Since he was asleep again i decided to see if anything at all was weird when i woke him up and if so take him to the er for a ct to look for internal bleeding... but thankfully he woke each time like reid answered questions and walked around for me without any vomit or blood and soon the morning showed up. i kept him home on monday and his eye had alot of eye bruising ... swollen jaw, and cheek...pretty much whole left side of face. But other than bruised and sore he is Reid again so I am relieved. I always thought the concussions would come from football... not a game of chase. I do have to give a shout out to Dale who was sooo worried about his brother. He checked on him all evening, and even came and slept on the floor next to him in my room to watch him... very heartwarming.
